My natural instinct is to determine outline and the prolific use of black lines in my work is witness to that. However I occasionally like to challenge myself with unconfined abstracts where the edges are looser. These paintings do have boundaries but they are not highlighted after the painting is completed. Rather the raw edges of paint have been allowed to define their own shape. The result is work that I feel has a real sense of movement to it.
